Effect of pulsed electromagnetic field therapy, configured for the calcium/calmodulin pathway, on (A) a cutaneous full-thickness wound and (B) a transected Achilles' tendon healing in the rat. Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy treatment was administered for 30 minutes twice daily for 21 days. The results showed a 59% increase in the tensile strength of the treated wound and a 69% increase in the tensile strength of the tendon. (Courtesy Strauch et al.49,50)
Those who need more localized treatment for the joints, extremities, head or neck area, may wish to consider using the OMI PEMF ring. This ring can be easily and comfortably placed around the neck to address pain or other health concerns in those areas. This could be a gentle form of therapy for those with injury to the cervical spine, as well as for those who suffer from chronic headaches.

My experience as a physio in the community has involved lots of work with Parkinson's and increasingly I see the effects of stress and the social engagement system being critical to understanding and improving movement, and in the last 3 years have done much more work with body awareness during activity, whether it be gaining flexibility or strength or balance. The toughest part is engagement especially when the general physio community is not promoting the same message. As you're website implies, it requires such a commitment to your well-being. I totally admire your perseverance and have empathy for how challenging it must be for you at times.

All energy is electromagnetic in nature. All atoms, chemicals and cells produce electromagnetic fields (EMFs). Every organ in thebody produces it own signature bioelectromagnetic field. Science has proven that our bodies actually project their own magnetic fields and that all 70 trillion cells in the body communicate via electromagnetic frequencies. Nothing happens in the body without an electromagnetic exchange. When the electromagnetic activity of the body ceases, life ceases.
Just like after an automobile tune up, mileage and horsepower go up, and exhaust gases go down, we have a very simple way to prove this we call the resting-breath-hold. How long you can hold your breath isn’t as much a function of cardiovascular health as it is a function of how well, and how efficiently your mitochondria metabolize oxygen that reaches the cell.
Oxidative free radicals are formed when O2 reaching the cell is not burned adequately (by the mitochondria). Lab geeks call it “Oxygen Leakage”. The worse the leakage, the higher the oxidative stress. Get it? You can flood the body with oxygen using ozone or hyperbaric chambers and that’s fine, but if that oxygen reaches the cell and isn’t burned properly your oxidative load skyrockets. Unlike hyperbaric or hypoxic training, EarthPulse™ PEMF results in a natural rise of blood and tissue oxygen. It sticks with you for days. Permanently for a routine user.
"PEMF therapy applied to a 49-year-old male PD patient with stage 3 disease, as assessed by Hoehn and Yahr scale, resulted in a marked improvement in motor and non-motor symptoms such as mood swings, sleeplessness, pain and sexual and cognitive dysfunctions, suggesting that PEMF therapy should be tested in large cohorts of PD patients as monotherapy and should also be considered as a treatment modality for de novo diagnosed PD patients. PEMF therapy was also effective in improving visuospatial deficits in four PD patients. Moreover, PEMF therapy improved PD-associated freezing (a symptom manifesting as a sudden attack of immobility usually experienced during walking) in 3 PD patients".
Corticosteroid injections have been commonly utilized in treating rotator cuff disease. Koester et al (2007) performed a systematic review of the literature and analyzed nine randomized controlled studies comparing subacromial corticosteroid injection with placebo. One study demonstrated significant pain relief and two studies showed an increased range of motion in the injection group. No significant complications were identified. In a study comparing a corticosteroid injection with a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection for subacromial impingement syndrome, the investigators found the Constant score and VAS for pain to be significantly better at both 6 weeks and 6 months in the corticosteroid-treated group. Good patient candidates for a single subacromial corticosteroid injection to achieve pain control are those with significant night pain or patients who will not tolerate phase 1 rehabilitation because of pain.

The EarthPulse is one of the most widely used PEMF device, and is primarily designed to facilitate deep delta rhythm sleep. Deep sleep causes recovery to accelerate and thereby reduces pain faster more naturally. The EarthPulse PEMF device is contrived to generate magnetic fields that “entrain” the brain by setting it in a cycle of regularized sleep rhythm. Thus it not only delivers PEMFs but also uses it in a much more effective manner by auto-shifting the frequencies to provide brainwave entrainment. It could just be the most effective brainwave entrainment tool too (and not just PEMF!). Brainwave entrainment basically means training your brain to operate at the best level of consciousness at any given time of the day. When a good circadian rhythm is established, the body performs best, recovery happens optimally and many types of pain vanish faster.
What’s more is that, PEMF treatment is pulsed and brief, so you don’t have extended exposure like you would sitting under a cell phone tower all day. Most PEMF treatments last 10-20 minutes and deliver short bursts the whole time, instead of constant exposure. So, you can get all of the benefits of PEMF without the negative effects that come with man-made EMF sources like electronics.

Having healthy cells is not a passive process. Active, regular tuning-up of our cells is not only feasible, but also necessary to slow aging and reduce the risk of cell dysfunction. We are, after all, only as healthy as our cells. Imperceptible cell dysfunction that is not corrected early can lead to disease. Fine-tuning can be done daily in only minutes, using pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMFs). In addition, when there is a known imbalance (when symptoms are present) or there is a known disease or condition, PEMF treatments, used either alone or along with other therapies, can often help cells rebalance dysfunction faster.

Exercise therapy interventions for patients with impingement are intended to restore the frontal and transverse plane glenohumeral force couples and normalize scapular motion. Generally they consist of progressive resistive exercises for the rotator cuff and scapular muscles and stretching of tight structures but they should also address the motor control deficits identified in patients with impingement. More detail on shoulder exercises is provided in Chapters 21 and 22. Exercise interventions have been supported in a number of recent randomized trials (Werner et al 2002, Walther et al 2004, Lombardi et al 2008) and systematic literature reviews for producing improvements in both pain and function (Green et al 2003, Trampas & Kitsios 2006, Faber et al 2006). In a Cochrane review (Green et al 2003), exercise was noted as effective in terms of short-term recovery in rotator cuff disease (RR 7.74; 95% CI 1.97–30.32) and for longer-term benefit with regard to function (RR 2.45; 95% CI 1.24–4.86). It should be noted that in patients with Neer stage I–II impingement there are no significant between-group differences (at 6 and 12 weeks) with regard to pain and function for patients treated with a supervised exercise programme or a home programme in which they are instructed by a physical therapist (Werner et al 2002, Walther et al 2004).

I bought a mat because I’ve read so much research over the last few years on Beamer therapy. I had to protruding discs in my lower back years ago and my job requires me to drive a lot . So I usually have a lot of stiffness & back pain. I used pemf about 7 times now and my back pain is so relieved. I can go hours of driving without as much back pain. When I wake up in the morning I’m not as stiff and I have seen ALIT of energy. I have a friend who uses mine for LUPUS and they have seen nothing but more energy. I definitely would recommend this, and will be purchasing more.
Hot Stone FIR and PEMF therapy may help to live well with sicknesses, detoxify body, enhance lymphatic drainage, burn fat and control weight. It encourages Serotonin, Enzymes, and Heat Shock Proteins biosynthesis, improves metabolism, blood circulation and immune system. Using this mat at higher temperatures can reverse hypothermia associated with poor immunity caused by chronic maladies and cancer. The lower temperature sessions will help you to restore healthy sleeping and all-night rest
What does it promise? A technology first used by vets to treat injured racehorses, the electromagnetic charges thrown out by PEMF equipment are thought to stimulate your body’s cells, which can aid recovery from injury, reduce headaches, improve your immune system and blood circulation, provide improved sleep, and boost your general energy. People swear by it. Admittedly, one of those people is Noel Edmonds.
It is this amplified electron spinning which restores the cell’s potential (its energy), regulating its volume at the same time. And, unlike some other forms of CAM, this positive cellular effect lasts for as many as four days after the treatment session has ended. With that, PEMF therapy is: The induction of electricity into the cells to help stimulate or promote healing.
Bergman et al (2004) compared medical care (consisting of oral analgesics or NSAID, education, advice, corticosteroid infiltrations and physical therapy referral for exercise, modalities, massage after 6 weeks) to medical care with up to 6 treatments of thrust and non-thrust manipulative interventions to the ribs and cervical-thoracic spine over 12 weeks in patients with shoulder symptoms and dysfunction of cervico-thoracic spine and adjacent ribs. At 12 weeks, 43% of the manipulation group and 21% of the medical care group reported full recovery. A 17-percentage point difference favouring manipulation still existed at 52 weeks. During intervention and follow-up a consistent between-group difference in severity of the main complaint, shoulder pain and disability, and general health favoured the manual therapy group.

PEMF therapy effectiveness in mouse models of breast cancer; Mice were divided into four groups (n = 3 each). Group 1, 2, and 3 were exposed to PEMF therapy (1 Hz, 100 mT) daily for 60, 180, or 360 min, respectively, for 4 weeks, while group 4 did not receive PEMF therapy and was used as control. All mice were monitored for tumor growth by body bioluminescence imaging once every 2 to 4 days for 4 weeks. Then, all the mice were sacrificed and skin, liver, lung, and spleen samples were collected for histopathologic analysis. Mice exposed to PEMFs for 60 and 180 min daily showed a 30% and 70% breast tumor reduction, respectively, at week 4. Mice exposed to PEMF for 360 min daily, showed a suppression of tumor growth at week 4. In summary, this study shows that the time of PEMF exposure is critical to determine its effectiveness. Mice exposed for longer duration (360 min daily for 4 weeks) showed a significant reduction in tumor size, due probably to the inhibition of angiogenesis that may suppress the formation of blood vessels in tumor tissues, reducing the tumor growth.
Some systematic reviews (Green et al 2003, Faber et al 2006) have supported a combination of manual therapy and exercise for patients with impingement for improvements in pain and function. Manual therapy interventions may be appropriate for restrictions in the glenohumeral joint, shoulder girdle, cervical and thoracic spine, and ribs and are discussed in more detail in Chapters 11, 12, 15 and 20.

If the EarthPulse™ PEMF device doesn’t have you feeling and performing a decade (or two) younger in a few weeks we want you to return it. We’ve used that PEMF guarantee since 2002 and if EarthPulse™ PEMF didn’t work the way we say, we’d have gone out of business long, long ago. Less than 5% of our clients return and in person we never saw EarthPulse™ PEMF fail.
Did you know that the OMI mat is the primary PEMF product that consumers use to get renewed energy and better sleep? This is what most individuals turn to for a more complete approach to PEMF therapy. The OMI PEMF therapy mat is lightweight, easy to use, easy to clean and it is beautifully designed with a soft microfiber surface comfortable enough for anyone to use.
"PEMF therapy improves PD symptoms including tremor, slowness of movement and difficulty in walking. It is non-invasive, safe and improves PD patients’ quality of life. PEMF therapy, employed for PD treatment, supports the body’s own healing process for 4–6 h after therapy session. It can be used at home and applied to the entire body or locally to target a specific body area and, if compared with dopaminergic systemic therapy, e.g. l-dopa, it can offer an alternative treatment avoiding systemic side effects such as hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity."
METHODS: In this randomized [with equal randomization (1:1)], double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, patients with radiographic evidence of knee OA and persistent pain higher than 40 mm on the visual analog scale (VAS) were recruited. The trial consisted of 12 h daily treatment for 1 month in 60 knee OA patients. The primary outcome measure was the reduction in pain intensity, assessed through VAS and WOMAC scores. Secondary outcomes included quality of life assessment through the 36-item Medical Outcomes Study Short-Form version 2 (SF-36 v2), pressure pain threshold (PPT) and changes in intake of NSAIDs/analgesics.

A moving – or resonating – magnetic field can create currents without heating and thus directly alter cellular signaling. It has been firmly established that tissues including blood, muscle, ligaments, bone and cartilage respond to biophysical input, including electrical and electromagnetic fields. New studies show that with the proper field intensity and frequency, treatment with PEMF appears to be disease-modifying. The stimulation of TGFβ may be a mechanism by which PEMF favorably affects cartilage homeostasis. Through calcium-calmodulin-dependent pathways, PEMF may also increase nitric oxide activity.

I know many people with PD have similar problems around food, digestion and medication ineffectiveness.  The reason for this, I believe, is in the role of the primitive Dorsal (Vegetative) branch of the Vagus Nerve in digestion, the specific part of the Nervous System also responsible for immobization/freeze responses in humans. Essentially, when a lot of food hits the digestive tract, this can send the enteric nervous system of people with PD into shock, activating the Dorsal Vagus, but in a way which then also inhibits the Ventral (Smart) Vagus Branch responsible for relaxed digestion. This enteric stress therefore results in increased motor symptoms. See

Patients and methods: A randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled, multicenter study in 36 subjects with persistent low-back and/or radiating leg pain after lumbar surgery was conducted. Eligible subjects were randomized (1:1:1) to receive one of two doses of therapy (42-μs or 38-μs pulse width) or treatment with a sham device. Subjects self-treated twice daily for 60 days. The primary end point was change in pain intensity (∆PI) using the Numerical Pain Rating Scale between average baseline (Days −5 to −1) and end of treatment (Days 56–60) for lumbar and radiating leg pain. Secondary outcome measures included the Oswestry Disability Index, Beck Depression Inventory-II, Patient Global Impression of Change, and consumption of analgesics.
Although the aforementioned studies suggest that PEMF effects on the Ca/CaM/NO cascades were responsible for the reported biologic effects, cellular and animal studies in which the use of inhibitors for selected steps in this cascade provide the strongest support. One well-designed study clearly showed DNA synthesis in articular chondrocytes in vitro was increased by PEMF via a NO pathway. This study systematically used CaM, NOS, and cGMP inhibitors that individually eliminated the PEMF effect on DNA synthesis.55 PEMF effects on osteoblast proliferation and differentiation were shown to be mediated by NO.56 Direct evidence of the effect of a PEMF signal configured for the Ca/CaM pathway on real-time NO production in a neuronal cell line, which could be eliminated by CaM and NOS inhibitors, has also recently been reported.57,58 Finally, 2 of the authors (BS and AAP) showed that PEMFs configured for the NO pathway significantly increased angiogenesis in a thermal myocardial injury in the rat.59,60 This effect was eliminated in rats who were fed NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), a NOS inhibitor (Figure 3).

PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) therapy has been used for centuries in various forms and was researched notably by Nikola Tesla and NASA. Only recently have the benefits of PEMF therapy started to gain popularity, receiving the support of respected members of the scientific community such as Dr. Oz and double Nobel Prize winner Dr. Linus Pauling.
They back this statement by reporting that even hospitalized patients are at risk, with one out of every ten harmed while in what is supposed to be one of the safest medical environments. It only goes to reason then that safety is also a major concern and consideration for patients who are interested in PEMF therapy. So what’s the answer to the question of whether or not PEMF is safe?If you answer this question based on research alone, then PEMF is in fact a safe treatment remedy.
So, one of the early major turnarounds I gained from using the PEMF device was that, if I put it on the back of my right shoulder [a placement I initially chose for convenience, but also since my right scalene/shoulder/clavicle region is the area where my residual pain and rigidity remains the greatest], just as I sit down to dinner, and leave it there for an hour, then I found this actually prevented much of the subsequent symptomatic shut down and medication ineffectiveness due to digestive impacts.

There is a lot of misinformation and myths put out about various PEMF devices to try and make their devices stand out and over-complicating the technology and effectiveness. You don't need to spend thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars to have an effective PEMF device. Remember, that for all items sold under "MLM" marketing you are paying "Hugh" commissions to people and their "upline".
In addition, here at Center for New Medicine, when patients have the IV therapies or the hyperbaric oxygen, it helps drive those therapies and those nutrients to the affected area. As we can see with Coleen here, we’ve placed the loop, which is one of the attachments, right over her affected area—so we’ll run that for ten minutes. And then we’ll also run the mat which she’s currently lying on – the blue mat here – for ten minutes, to help the electrical pitch in all the cells in her body.

In aging and debilitated cells, the inflow of nutrients accompanied is also accompanied with a current of toxic fluids. It has been established that pain is felt as a result of the stimulation of peripheral nociceptors. When this stimulation occurs, encoded signals of distress are transmitted in an ascending pattern to the uppermost cortical structures.

The majority of patients in the study by Cohen et al (2007) examining rotator cuff contusions showed quick responses to treatment with modalities such as, pulse ultrasound and cuff/scapula strenthening. It was noted that the athletes who had significant subentheseal bone bruises and what the researchers called “chronic tendinopathy” had more prolonged recovery. In the patients who did not demonstrate significant improvement by the third day after injury (23%) a subacromial corticosteroid injection was utilized; this step was described to be of benefit, because only one of the six athletes who received a cortisone injection later needed surgery. Minimal morbidity was noted overall as a result of the contusions but 11% of the patients required later surgical intervention.
Stationary (or “static”), non-varying, magnetic fields from magnets have fixed strengths. They are used in mattresses, bracelets, knee wraps and the like. Most have very shallow penetration into the body, resulting in a very limited ability to affect deeper tissues, and they rarely treat all the cells of the body simultaneously. Only skilled practitioners may guide you to get the bestresults from these approaches.
