Fracture nonunion: a rare but extremely serious complication. “Normally a broken bone will begin to grow together in a few weeks if the ends are held close together to each other without movement. Occasionally, however, a bone will refuse to knit despite a year or more of casts and surgery. This is a disaster for the patient and a bitter defeat for the doctor, who must amputate the arm or leg and fit a prosthetic substitute.” Becker

As per published research, PEMF therapy has been proven to be beneficial for a variety of disorders that affect the brain as well as the whole body. PEMF-Devices.com blog is covering many such conditions one-by-one. We also endeavour to find out the extent of healing that happens in various conditions due to PEMF therapy. Finally, we cover PEMF devices for which there are reviews from users that explain their experience as well as the techniques and use guide for these conditions based on reviews and research.
If the EarthPulse™ PEMF device doesn’t have you feeling and performing a decade (or two) younger in a few weeks we want you to return it. We’ve used that PEMF guarantee since 2002 and if EarthPulse™ PEMF didn’t work the way we say, we’d have gone out of business long, long ago. Less than 5% of our clients return and in person we never saw EarthPulse™ PEMF fail.
Upon return to earth, many astronauts were noted with symptoms of depression, bone loss, decreased metabolism, impaired perception and muscle degeneration. Initially, Scientists were baffled; with nothing to work with they could not explain what was causing these rather extreme symptoms. After a period of extensive study however, it came to light that the PEMF created by the earth was integral to the well being of the human body.
Having the intense pain, swelling with discoloration happening right before my eyes. Well, Dr. Pacelli explain that following his procedures would have me walking down the isle in the six weeks’ time, with no pain, swelling and the normal color to my lower leg and ankle area. He stated the bone would be mending but we would not know how much it would be mended until the day before that wonderful date. One of the major therapies was PEMF that I never heard of before but what a different it made to my leg.

The primary function of our magnetic fields in the body is to naturally increase circulation by opening and dilating the arteries and capillaries. When PEMF Therapy is used, a magnetic pulse passes through the cell which enables the membrane to become charged. The cells then separate from each other which helps to promote proper circulation and an increase in cellular oxygen.

Diathermy-based RF PEMF has been employed in (1) double-blind clinical studies for chronic wound repair, in which actively treated pressure ulcers closed by 84% versus 40% in sham-treated wounds in one study7 and 60% versus no closure in the control group in another study8; (2) studies showing that a decrease in edema in acute ankle sprains was sevenfold versus the control group9,10; (3) studies showing a pain decrease in acute whiplash injuries of 50% and a range of motion increase of 75% in treated versus control patients11,12; (4) skin microvascular blood flow studies, in which blood flow was enhanced by about 30% in both healthy13 and diabetic14 individuals; and (5) studies in which postmastectomy lymphedema was reduced by 56% and skin blood flow increased fourfold.15
Electromagnetic field therapy has been in use since the invention of electricity. It was widely adopted in East and Western Europe but its use was restricted to animals in North America until recently.[when?][7] Veterinarians became the first health professionals to use PEMF therapy, usually to heal broken legs in racehorses.[8] In 2004, a pulsed electromagnetic field system was approved by the FDA as an adjunct to cervical fusion surgery in patients at high risk for non-fusion.[8] On 13 October 2015 the FDA reclassified PEMF devices from the Class 3 category to a Class 2 status. PEMF devices that have been FDA cleared to make health claims that require a doctor's prescription for use.[9]
RESULTS: Sixty-six patients were included, and 60 completed the study. After 1 month, PEMF induced a significant reduction in VAS pain and WOMAC scores compared with placebo. Additionally, pain tolerance, as expressed by PPT changes, and physical health improved in PEMF-treated patients. A mean treatment effect of -0.73 (95% CI - 1.24 to - 0.19) was seen in VAS score, while the effect size was -0.34 (95% CI - 0.85 to 0.17) for WOMAC score. Twenty-six per cent of patients in the PEMF group stopped NSAID/analgesic therapy. No adverse events were detected.
Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy replicates the Earth’s natural magnetic field, which we were once strongly connected to. Over time this magnetic field has gotten weaker (an estimated 10% weaker since the 19th century) and due to industrialization and modernization, we are further separated from the Earth’s natural magnetic field. The therapy actually originated from NASA’s research involving the benefits of pulsed electromagnetic fields on astronauts for fatigue, depression, bone loss and other symptoms following even short trips to outer space. Scientists discovered that the cause was due to astronauts being without this beneficial natural field emanating from our Earth.
A moving – or resonating – magnetic field can create currents without heating and thus directly alter cellular signaling. It has been firmly established that tissues including blood, muscle, ligaments, bone and cartilage respond to biophysical input, including electrical and electromagnetic fields. New studies show that with the proper field intensity and frequency, treatment with PEMF appears to be disease-modifying. The stimulation of TGFβ may be a mechanism by which PEMF favorably affects cartilage homeostasis. Through calcium-calmodulin-dependent pathways, PEMF may also increase nitric oxide activity.
It is important to note that PEMF effects are immediate and are not limited by pharmacokinetics because the induced currents are instantaneously present when the coil applicator is transmitting into the affected area. For example, studies designed to assess PEMF effects on pain and edema in a carrageenan rat hind paw model have reported a 100% inhibition of pain and a 50% reduction of edema in treated animals over a time span of 225 minutes62 compared with aspirin or nitroaspirin, which only caused about 50% pain inhibition at 200 minutes, using maximum dose in the same model.63 It is also important to note that resting cells (in homeostasis), in which there is no transient increase in cytosolic free Ca2+, do not appear to respond to PEMF, providing one explanation for the reports of no known side effects from PEMFs since the clearance of BGS devices in 1979.

Pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) technologies have shown usefulness as adjunctive therapy for the treatment of both delayed-union fractures1 and chronic wounds.2 These relatively simple devices use an external, non-invasive PEMF to generate shorts bursts of electrical current in injured tissue without producing heat or interfering with nerve or muscle function. Recently, increased understanding of the mechanism of action of PEMF therapy has permitted technologic advances yielding economical and disposable PEMF devices. With these devices, PEMF therapy has been broadened to include the treatment of postoperative pain and edema in both outpatient and home settings,3 offering the physician a more versatile tool for patient management.
The EarthPulse is one of the most widely used PEMF device, and is primarily designed to facilitate deep delta rhythm sleep. Deep sleep causes recovery to accelerate and thereby reduces pain faster more naturally. The EarthPulse PEMF device is contrived to generate magnetic fields that “entrain” the brain by setting it in a cycle of regularized sleep rhythm. Thus it not only delivers PEMFs but also uses it in a much more effective manner by auto-shifting the frequencies to provide brainwave entrainment. It could just be the most effective brainwave entrainment tool too (and not just PEMF!). Brainwave entrainment basically means training your brain to operate at the best level of consciousness at any given time of the day. When a good circadian rhythm is established, the body performs best, recovery happens optimally and many types of pain vanish faster.

This Twitter-brief statement packs in many red flags for quackery and snake oil: such as a simple device that can tack a wide range of medical conditions that do not appear to share a common cause or mechanism. The word “tackle” is vague, but implies either a cure or at least a significant treatment. Anyone claiming to treat or cure cancer deserves close scrutiny.

NASA (National Aeronautical and Space Administration) also saw the need to develop a means of preventing and treating bone and muscle loss of their astronauts as they explored the moon and other regions of the galaxy. Methods were developed to enhance bone retention, prevent or alleviate muscle atrophy, and enhance natural healing and regeneration whilst in a space environment with little access to conventional treatments.
All energy is electromagnetic in nature. All atoms, chemicals and cells produce electromagnetic fields (EMFs). Every organ in the body produces its own signature bio-electromagnetic field. Science has proven that our bodies actually project their own magnetic fields and that all 70 trillion cells in the body communicate via electromagnetic frequencies.
With regard to medical management, Green et al (2003) reported that for rotator cuff disease, corticosteroid injections might at times be superior to physical therapy. Buchbinder et al (2003) noted that for rotator cuff disease, subacromial steroid injection demonstrated a small benefit over placebo in some trials. Pooled results of three trials showed no benefit of subacromial steroid injection over NSAIDs. In the context of surgery it should be noted that no significant differences have been reported in outcome between arthroscopic and open subacromial decompression, although four trials did report earlier recovery with arthroscopic decompression (Coghlan et al 2008).
