Since the beginning of human civilization, magnetic fields have been used for pain relief and to promote healing. However a breakthrough came through a study in the 1940s that gathered that the permeability of cell membranes was directly affected by pulsed magnetic fields. The transmission of electrical impulses via cell membranes results in the generation of the body’s magnetic field which also has a pulse or a frequency.
Post-surgery, approximately half of the participants engaged in PEMF therapy while the other half served as a control.After evaluating the patients’ statuses at one,two, three, six, and twelve month intervals, the researchers concluded that, “There were no differences in the incidence of adverse events in the two groups, indicating that the use of PEMF stimulation is safe in this clinical setting.” It’s important to note that, although PEMF was deemed safe in this study, there was still one major difference between the group who participated in this therapy and the group that did not.

Patients and methods: A randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled, multicenter study in 36 subjects with persistent low-back and/or radiating leg pain after lumbar surgery was conducted. Eligible subjects were randomized (1:1:1) to receive one of two doses of therapy (42-μs or 38-μs pulse width) or treatment with a sham device. Subjects self-treated twice daily for 60 days. The primary end point was change in pain intensity (∆PI) using the Numerical Pain Rating Scale between average baseline (Days −5 to −1) and end of treatment (Days 56–60) for lumbar and radiating leg pain. Secondary outcome measures included the Oswestry Disability Index, Beck Depression Inventory-II, Patient Global Impression of Change, and consumption of analgesics.
Self-administered PEMF therapy for 60 min, three times a day, for an average of 278.4 months was offered to only 28 patients with advanced cancer: 7 breast cancer, 5 ovarian cancer, 3 pancreatic cancer, 2 colorectal cancer, 2 prostate cancer, 1 glioblastoma multiforme, 1 hepatocellular carcinoma, 1 mesothelioma, 1 neuroendocrine tumor, 1 non-small-cell lung cancer, 1 oligodendroglioma, 1 small-cell lung cancer, 1 sarcoma, and 1 thyroid tumor. None of the patients who received PEMF therapy reported any side effects; four patients presented stable disease for 3 years (thyroid cancer with biopsy-proven lung metastases), 6 months (mesothelioma metastatic to the abdomen), 5 months (non-small-cell lung cancer), and 4 months (pancreatic cancer with biopsy-proven liver metastases), respectively.
PEMFs have been used extensively for decades for many conditions and medical disciplines, and results can be seen in animals as well as humans. The National Institutes of Health have made PEMFs a priority for research. In fact, many PEMF devices have already been approved by the FDA, some specifically to fuse broken bones, wound healing, pain and tissue swelling, and treat depression. Most therapeutic PEMF devices are considered safe by various standards and organizations.
Three years later, this concept was taken one step further when Georges Lakhovsky shared his ideology and theories that the reinforcement of cell oscillation with radio waves increased their ability to fight off damage or disease. Less common causes of shoulder pain are suprascapular or long thoracic nerve entrapment. Problems not to be missed include thoracic outlet syndrome (e.g. cervical rib), circulation problems (e.g. axillary vein thrombosis), bone tumour, or referred pain from diaphragm or organs (e.g. heart, gallbladder, spleen, apex of the lungs, or duodenum) (Brukner et al 2001e).

What’s it actually like? Very easy to use. You lie down on the mat, press a button on the tablet and eight minutes later you get up again. It’s so easy that at first you’ll probably think nothing is happening. I used the mat during the first few weeks of fatherhood – a time when I should have been in a zombified stupor – and I surprised myself with how sprightly I felt. This could have been down to the EMPpad. Then again, it might have been all the sugar I was eating. It’s hard to say.
Although the aforementioned studies suggest that PEMF effects on the Ca/CaM/NO cascades were responsible for the reported biologic effects, cellular and animal studies in which the use of inhibitors for selected steps in this cascade provide the strongest support. One well-designed study clearly showed DNA synthesis in articular chondrocytes in vitro was increased by PEMF via a NO pathway. This study systematically used CaM, NOS, and cGMP inhibitors that individually eliminated the PEMF effect on DNA synthesis.55 PEMF effects on osteoblast proliferation and differentiation were shown to be mediated by NO.56 Direct evidence of the effect of a PEMF signal configured for the Ca/CaM pathway on real-time NO production in a neuronal cell line, which could be eliminated by CaM and NOS inhibitors, has also recently been reported.57,58 Finally, 2 of the authors (BS and AAP) showed that PEMFs configured for the NO pathway significantly increased angiogenesis in a thermal myocardial injury in the rat.59,60 This effect was eliminated in rats who were fed NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), a NOS inhibitor (Figure 3).
In a parallel but separate evolution, orthopedic surgeons, studying the process by which mechanical signals influence bone growth and repair,16,17 discovered that everyday mechanical signals (walking, jumping, etc.) produced endogenous electrical currents in bone that could modulate bone cell activity.18 This naturally led to the use of exogenous current for bone repair. The first animal studies employed low (microampere) level direct currents (DC) delivered via implanted electrodes that resulted in new bone formation around the negative electrode (cathode19). The first therapeutic devices were based on these early animal studies and used implanted and semi-invasive electrodes delivering DC to the fracture site.20,21 These early applications required the cathode to be near the fracture site because bone growth was limited to the area immediately adjacent to the electrode surface, where chemical changes related to electrolysis occur.
Back in 2002, a pilot study was carried out to objectively assess the effectiveness of EarthPulse. In the study, some 11 patients suffering from chronic pain for more than two years were placed on a PEMF therapy in order to determine how EarthPulse influences sleep patterns and pain reception. After a few months of treatment, 7 of the 11 patients, having been subjectively evaluated by Visual analog pain scales, reported significant alleviation of pain. The report on the study was tremendously positive.

Il ne reçoit qu'après accord écrit des parents et ne fait pas de psychothérapie lui-même.
B2i : Le B2i, brevet informatique et internet, est un référentiel définissant des niveaux de maîtrise des nouvelles technologies, notamment l'ordinateur et internet. Aujourd'hui, tous les élèves doivent sortir de l'école primaire en maîtrisant les compétences du B2i niveau 1. Dans les faits, il demeure encore des difficultés de mise en oeuvre du dispositif, notamment pour des raisons de coût du matériel informatique.
