Lastly, you may experience uncomfortable sensations specially if you have autonomic dysfunction or have neurotoxicity due to your environment or an infection. Fatigue, agitation, weakness, dizziness or vertigo, increased urination (although the frequency of night time urination reduces with PEMF therapy long-term), and warm/cold sensations might manifest. These can also be indicators of your body’s requirements for correct nutrient intake. It’s time to consult a nutritionist when such effects are experienced. Nutrition is key to best results with PEMF, as cells can’t repair even when well energized if nutrition deficiencies exist.
Recently, I've started using it consistently for longer times, keeping it on through several cycles of the PD drugs. In doing so, I've found that this can reduce the prolonged "off" periods in which the drugs wear off completely. Thus, consistent use of the device is helping to keep pain and rigidity symptoms at bay, and to also extend the time of action of each dose too, allowing a lower drug burden overall. I also therefore get less, and less severe, dyskinesia - the large scale uncontrolled wriggling movements which long term use of the PD drugs tends to cause (side-effect of medication).
RESULTS: Sixty-six patients were included, and 60 completed the study. After 1 month, PEMF induced a significant reduction in VAS pain and WOMAC scores compared with placebo. Additionally, pain tolerance, as expressed by PPT changes, and physical health improved in PEMF-treated patients. A mean treatment effect of -0.73 (95% CI - 1.24 to - 0.19) was seen in VAS score, while the effect size was -0.34 (95% CI - 0.85 to 0.17) for WOMAC score. Twenty-six per cent of patients in the PEMF group stopped NSAID/analgesic therapy. No adverse events were detected.
Pulsed Electro Magnetic Fields PEMF Therapy is recommended as a long-term application. The positive effects of PEMF Therapy last for a long period of time, but this depends fundamentally on the individual lifestyle of the user in question. The aim of the treatment is the preservation of physical capability and health until well into old age. It is less important how old one is, but rather the way in which one gets old (and with what quality of life).
How does the PEMF machine work then? As each pulse of electromagnetic energy runs through the body, it improves the cells micro-circulation, simultaneously increasing the blood flow and amount of oxygen available to each cell, which in turn improves the electron transport chain efficiency. In turn this causes the ATP in cells to increase, making them function at optimal levels, making the body expel toxins, absorb nutrients and produce more energy.
What’s more is that, PEMF treatment is pulsed and brief, so you don’t have extended exposure like you would sitting under a cell phone tower all day. Most PEMF treatments last 10-20 minutes and deliver short bursts the whole time, instead of constant exposure. So, you can get all of the benefits of PEMF without the negative effects that come with man-made EMF sources like electronics.
There are many scientific studies on the degree of effectiveness for pulsed electromagnetic fields therapy. It was found that disturbances in blood circulation and in metabolism play a key role in the development of diseases. Application of PEMF therapy, also called energy medicine, by pulsed electromagnetic fields with Curatron devices has a proven track record for more than 15 years.
Over the years PEMF Therapy has proven to be effective on both acute and chronic pain. The body is comprised of approximately 70 trillion cells which communicate via Electromagnetic Frequencies. When the body experiences Electromagnetic pulses, it generates micro currents which target the cell membrane modifying and restoring normal function to damaged cells.
Dr. Pawluk also introduced a small, disposable PEMF device called Acti-Patch by Bioelectronics Corp. In Canada, ActiPatch is a Class II device and is sold over-the-counter. Health Canada has approved it for relief of musculoskeletal pain. It is not FDA-approved for musculoskeletal pain, so the efficacy of these patches is still unclear. It may have some benefit with superficial pain and edema.
Classically, TENS has been used for the purpose of pain alleviation. Low-frequency TENS has also been found effective to increase microcirculation and facilitate the absorption of calcific deposits in the shoulder tendons.123,124 The most effective treatment points are believed to be associated with stimulation of the acupuncture points.125 Figure 41-9 displays a possible electrode placement using acupuncture sites. The points used in this arrangement include Jianjing (GB 21), Binao (LI 14), Juga (LI 16), and Jianya (LI 15).126 Any physical modality is only an adjunct in a physical therapy clinic and should be used with prudence.
Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields have always existed, in fact the Earth is constantly generating one, in basis, we are always exposed to a pulsating field of electromagnetic energy. However, due to the broad spectrum of other Electromagnetic Fields that currently inhabit the air; the effects of the PEMF are lost in so much “Static Electromagnetic energy”. For a large amount of human history, we were unaware of the benefits this PEMF was generating, the realization dawned on scientists after the first few successful space missions due to the effects that extended time in space were having on astronauts.
Or, you can get your own equipment. PEMF devices aren’t classified as regulated medical devices, so you don’t need to be a doctor or a chiropractor to buy a PEMF device. If you can afford it, you can get a PEMF mat, pad, or ring. Affording it is the tricky part. The cheapest PEMF mats go for $1,300 or more, and the prices go up from there. As with anything, you get what you pay for, and higher-quality devices run into five figures.
I am so excited to come across such a refreshing approach/understanding of Parkinson's sisease. I am a craniosacral and physiotherapist doing a bit of digging for useful info about gut health and P.d. for a client when I came across your website. I don't know if you have had any experience of craniosacral therapy, but big into the effects of whole systems harmony, polyvagal theory and impact on neurophysiology/psychoneuroendocrinoimmunological etc.

I felt horrible. Nobody wants to be told they have cancer. I was afraid, my family was afraid. I watched a documentary on cancer and through it I found a loving, wonderful clinic. I learned how amazing our immune systems are and how our bodies can fight cancer! I came to the clinic and I was shocked. I didn’t know cancer treatment could look like this.

"In October 2008 the Food and Drug Administration approved the use of PEMF therapy for treatment of major depressive disorder in PD patients who failed to achieve satisfactory improvement from very high dosages of antidepressant medications. Several studies reported PEMF therapy improved cognitive functions and motor symptoms. For example, an investigation involving three elderly PD patients with cognitive impairment assessed the effect of PEMF therapy on a disorder of the body image in which the patient perceives a part or parts of his body as disproportionately large. After receiving PEMF therapy, PD patients’ drawings showed reversal of macrosomatognosia (assessed by Draw-a-Person test) with reduction of the right parietal lobe dysfunction."
The EMP pad, in my opinion, is a typical quack device – it is sold with wishy-washy structure-function claims and vague claims of dramatic health benefits. It uses sciencey jargon about resonance and magnetic fields, the appeal to nature fallacy, and irrelevant references to scientific studies that don’t even come close to establishing their claims.
Magnetic Field Intensity can be measured for both “Static” and “Dynamic” magnetic fields. PEMF is a dynamic magnetic field and can be measured with a suitable instrument. The Earth's core magnetic field (which you can see from a compass reading) is a static magnetic field and it is approximately 250-650 milliguass strength and varies at different locations on the earth.
“The PEMF Therapy and all the other treatments by Dr Pacelli is the best decision I could have made! In the 4 months I’ve seen huge improvements in my health. The psoriasis is diminishing…my energy has greatly improved…my color is wonderful…my weight is decreasing…my blood sugars are totally normal…and I’ve shown my medical doctors that I don’t need the Statin drug they were trying to force on me…because my LDL and cholesterol levels are now totally normal.

The OMI pulse pad is also available, and has been helpful for those who suffer from carpal tunnel or other localized areas that are painful. The pulse pad can be easily placed on a table or on your lap, allowing you to rest your arm gently on the pulse pad. The pulse pad is compact and battery operated, making it easy to take your therapy wherever you choose to go.
Conventional medicine continues to be dominated by mechanical/chemical thinking (surgery and medication treatments). However, Pulsed Electro Magnetic Fields Therapy already forms part of conventional medicine as a complementary treatment method. It is currently accepted by specialist medical bodies and is a key topic in medical working groups and a current object of research in a number of universities.

However, simply because I haven’t found a negative to PEMF treatment, it doesn’t mean there isn’t one, it simply means I couldn’t find it. But for now, it looks like a simple way to help your body recharge and work at an optimal level, so I will not boycott it. If you do choose to use it, please leave a comment or let me know how you got on, I’d love to hear from you!

I feel like a new person! I’m learning how to live a healthy lifestyle through videos played in the office…through the many conversations and directions given by Dr. Pacelli on a weekly basis…and through his written materials. It’s been a real wake-up call to learn about the toxins in our environment and from the foods we eat. I have no doubt my quality of life will be tremendously improved as I continue to follow the advice of Dr. Pacelli. He’s definitely knowledgeable, caring, and highly invested in helping people get well and live the life we were created to live.”

As with back pain each of the possible contributing factors need to be examined and included in the treatment plan as appropriate (Kent et al 2005). This means that instead of lumping groups of symptoms together (e.g. rotator cuff symptoms) it has been suggested to split and recognise factors that cause laxity, impingement and/or lesion and provide treatment as the clinician sees fit. So far:
Diathermy-based RF PEMF has been employed in (1) double-blind clinical studies for chronic wound repair, in which actively treated pressure ulcers closed by 84% versus 40% in sham-treated wounds in one study7 and 60% versus no closure in the control group in another study8; (2) studies showing that a decrease in edema in acute ankle sprains was sevenfold versus the control group9,10; (3) studies showing a pain decrease in acute whiplash injuries of 50% and a range of motion increase of 75% in treated versus control patients11,12; (4) skin microvascular blood flow studies, in which blood flow was enhanced by about 30% in both healthy13 and diabetic14 individuals; and (5) studies in which postmastectomy lymphedema was reduced by 56% and skin blood flow increased fourfold.15

Considering the role of thoracic flexion on scapulo-thoracic motion, education with regard to appropriate posture seems an obvious component of patient education. Bullock et al (2005) noted a significant increase in patients with impingement for shoulder flexion range although not pain intensity with erect as compared to slouched sitting posture. Visual, manual, and verbal feedback combined with education on faulty movement patterns provided significantly decreased electromyographic activity in the upper and middle trapezius, infraspinatus, serratus anterior, and anterior and middle deltoid muscles of patients with impingement immediately and 24 hours after movement training, whereas trunk, shoulder, and clavicular kinematics improved during and immediately after training, especially in the subset of patients with elevated clavicular position supporting the role of educating patients on correct movement patterns (Roy et al 2009).

Also on the show, family physician Dr. William Pawluk discussed the OrthoCor Active Knee System. This is an FDA-approved device that combines PEMF energy and thermal therapy to increase circulation and thus reduce swelling, relieve chronic pain and arthritis, as well as improve range of motion. The device’s technology consists of a cuff that surrounds the knee. It has a coil and heat pods that send magnetic pulses and heat through the injured tissue. Patients can walk while the OrthoCor device is in operation. OrthoCor sells its products through orthopedic clinics, physicians and health care practitioners.
